History

We are the only Byzantine Catholic parish in New Mexico, founded in 1974 by a mixed group of laity who petitioned for a priest after purchasing a chapel and house.

The  parish has flourished, and counts members not only from "traditional" Byzantine Catholic backgrounds (Arab, Hungarian, Russian, Ruthenian, Slovak, Ukrainian), but also a broad mix which includes Germans, Hispanics, Irish, Italians, Jews, Poles, and folks who consider themselves "American." The parish conducts advertising and outreach campaigns and has converts or returnees to the Catholic Faith every year.

In 1985, OLPH counted about 60 members with a Sunday attendance of 45. Currently we have 90 households across the State of New Mexico with 180 parishioners. We have faithful driving to church from Los Alamos, Gallup, and Santa Fe. The parish is a mix of ethnic backgrounds and the Liturgy is offered in English with Spanish and some Old Slavonic. All Catholics can attend our Divine Liturgy and fulfill their obligations for Sunday or holy days. Join us!
